Fish of Hermaphroditus

Hermaphroditus was the son of Hermes and Aphrodite. A water-nymph Salmacis, fell in love with Hermaphroditus and prayed that they’d never be separated. So the Greek gods joined the pair into one body.

The seabream (φαγκρί) is a hermaphroditic fish which lives as a male in the first 3 years of life before changing into a female.
